The Dream Act
The United States senate blocked a bid to give children of illegal aliens United States citizenship, as long as they go to college or join the military. The likeliness of any immigration reform coming before the 2008 elections is slim.
"They are just as loyal and devoted to our country as any American," said Senate Democratic majority leader Harry Reid.
Sure Harry make it easy on the illegals but the ones going through the legal process still have it hard. This just shows how much Democrats don't get it.
"The Dream Act puts some illegal aliens in a better position for residency than legal aliens who have played by the rules." That's according to Fred Thompson.
"Congress must take steps to secure our borders and provide for our national security first," said Senate Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell. "Though I recognize and appreciate the tremendous contributions to our country made by generations of legal immigrants, I do not believe we should reward illegal behavior," he said. "It is our duty to promote respect for America's immigration laws and fairness for US citizens and lawful immigrants."
The Republicans understand what needs to be done. Giving illegal aliens citizen status is not one.
